Arlette Baumans is a graduate from the Institut Saint-Luc in Liege and holds a degree in urban design from the University of Liege. In 1974, she starts her own practice. From 1987 to 1993, she collaborates within the Atelier du Sart-Tilman in Liege, Belgium. In 1999 she associates herself with the architect Bernard Deffet.Bernard Deffet is a graduate from Washington University in St. Louis and holds a master of architecture from the Massachussetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.) in Boston.

Between 1989 and 1990, he pursues his international experience and collaborates within Andres Mignucci arquitectos in San Juan, Puerto Rico. On returning to Belgium in 1991, he collaborates with his father Georges Deffet. In 1999, he associates himself with the architect and urban designer Arlette Baumans. Geraldine Brauschs interest in matters political - including such areas as conflict, emancipation and equality - led her to the study of philosophy. After a period of unemployment, she resumed her studies once more- she worked on a research project on the philosophy of jurisprudence at the University of Liege, and taught lay morality at secondary technical and vocational level.
